Most of the time, yes. If the tiles and the substrate underneath are sound, cutting out the old grout and silicone and replacing them will stop the majority of shower leaks. We only recommend a full rebuild when the waterproofing membrane itself has failed, because at that point no amount of grout will hold the water back.
A regrout or reseal is usually one to two days. A full bathroom renovation takes considerably longer, mostly because the waterproofing membrane has to cure fully before tiling can start and that is not a step worth rushing. You get the expected timeline in writing with your quote.
Epoxy grout does not absorb water, so it resists staining and mould far better than standard cement grout. It costs more and takes longer to install. It is genuinely worth it in showers and on commercial floors. In a dry area it usually is not necessary, and we will tell you that rather than sell it to you.
Because the tiles are almost never the problem. Most balcony leaks start at the door threshold, at the junction where the balcony meets the building, or at a membrane joint that was not lapped properly. The water then travels before it appears on the ceiling below, which is why the damp patch is often nowhere near the actual entry point.
Yes. A good portion of our work is maintenance and repairs for owners corporations, property managers and builders, particularly on balconies and bathrooms in apartment buildings. We are used to working around tenants and providing documentation for strata records.
Metropolitan Melbourne and the surrounding suburbs. Tell us where the property is when you get in touch and we will confirm straight away.
Send two or three photos of the shower, the balcony or the room through the contact form, along with a short description of the problem. For most repair work that is enough for us to give you a price. For full renovations we will come out and measure up.
Usually because the last bead was run over the top of the old one. Mould grows in the joint underneath and comes straight back through the new sealant within months. It has to be cut out completely and the joint cleaned and treated before a fresh bead goes in.
