Wall and Floor Tiling

How we set a room out

Tiling is mostly set out. Where you start the first tile decides where every cut lands, and a room tiled from the wrong corner will have a sliver of tile beside the door for the rest of its life.

  • Large format, mosaic, subway, stack bond and herringbone
  • Levelling clips used on large format so there is no lipping
  • Set out planned before the first tile goes on
  • Residential and commercial floors
  • Existing tiles removed if needed

Before anything is stuck down we dry lay and measure so we know where the cuts fall. If a set out leaves a twenty millimetre sliver against the most visible wall, we shift the whole grid rather than live with it.

Walls get checked for plumb and floors for level. Large format tiles are unforgiving: a wall that is out by five millimetres over two metres will show as lipping between every tile unless it is packed out first.

Movement joints go in where they are needed, internal corners are left for silicone, and the grout colour is chosen with you rather than assumed.
